I’ve been trying to get better at explaining my process. This is one of the ways that helps me loosen up and get new ideas. It’s a sort of meditation.
🧘 🧘

It’s a process I have been using a lot. I love to put paper together in a way that makes me happy. I use to think I was easily distracted and wasting my time messing around but the messing around is the foundations to my work.
Following my curiosity until it feels right.
How do stories start for you? Is it the words? Worlds? Character?

I haven’t wanted to post here in a while.
.I don’t know what it is. Instagram doesn’t feel the same as it use to and it’s all very exhausting 🤔
Like I have to have a social media strategy and huge ambition to go viral. Posting spontaneous thoughts and sketches are not enough.
Is putting creative practice before creating content outdated?
But instagram has always been good to me. I was spotted here by publishers many years ago, and that’s how I got my first book job. You never know who’s seeing your work. So to not be here is missing opportunities.
Perhaps not adhering to the algorithm and doing what feels right for me is the answer.🤷‍♂️
.
The artwork: More summer sketchbook drawings from my travels, added to- at my desk when I got home. 🌲 🌲 🌲

Hello 👋
I’ve been away exploring. It’s been totally reviving. A complete switch off after a very busy year and I’m happiest in nature with my family.
I drew a bit, been inspired a lot.
Now I’m Very ready for new stories.
How was your summer?

This time last year I felt a little lost, but in hindsight, this abstract practice was a big part of finding myself. I plan on getting lost again this summer.

We had an absolute ball @illustratorsfair yesterday. It was so lovely to share a stand with @shway_illustrator and @zoez.ansari .
Thank you to all who visited, bought something or just came to say hello!! 🙋‍♂️
I loved chatting to fellow illustrators, artists and people who love illustration.
It was also lovely to meet @chrishaughton and help spread the word about his brilliant campaign @we.are.better.than.this Please Join the war against AI 🙏
What an amazing community to be a part of. I feel very lucky.

Hello!!
I’m going to be at @illustratorsfair on Saturday.
Here’s what I’m taking. It’s very heavy and I don’t want to take it home again so please come. Say hellooo…👋
If nothing else, let this be a glorious social gathering.
🙏🙏🙏
Ps. It’s clear to see I’m in my owl era.
