I’ve been looking through my artwork from last summer. I found these experiments for ‘The Selfish Giant’. They never made the Final Cut, but I like them all the same.

My May was Yellow & Orange.
I very much enjoyed doing little memory drawings each day during half term. Low pressure, play that I like to arrange and look at all together. I’ve been enjoying drawing on small postcard sized pieces of paper, they are almost like little photos of my day. I very much recommend it!
Sometimes drawing from observation isn’t always very practical for me, if I have children / dogs in tow and sometimes it’s nice to be present and take it all in, to go back and draw how it felt.
But now it’s June. Time for a pallet change.

Hooray for a Bank Holiday Weekend heatwave!

I was very lucky to be shortlisted for the @batsfordbooks Batsford Prize for Book illustration.

Last night we had a brilliant time at the private view. It’s always a pleasure to meet up with my @csacbi pals. I enjoyed it a little too much as i forgot to take any photos of my exhibition 🫣

I had great fun in combining home printmaking using plants and leaves and drawing over the top. It was definitely a joy to make, I hope you feel that too when you look at it.

Drawings of my brilliant daughter.
At 14 she doesn’t like me drawing her.And I do find it hard to capture all the things she is in an observational drawing, but she is my inspiration for many stories and feelings.Her strength which was felt from the moment she was born to her kindness which surrounds her. I think she is the best part of many females in my life. I wish I could be more like her.

I want to say a huge thank you to @walkerpicturebooks for awarding me the Sebastian Walker Award. It was a complete shock and such an honour. And congratulations to the brilliant @jiaruii_jiang and @nkwanstudio , who were highly commended, so very deserved. 🌟
We’ve spent so long in the wonderfully supportive bubble of @cambridge_school_of_art @csacbi learning, experimenting, responding to feedback, and quietly developing our voices -but when its time to emerge, we have no idea how the work will be received by readers or publishers.
It’s been so special to see people truly engaging with our work: children drawing our characters, families lingering over spreads, and such a generous response from the public. Thank you so much to everyone who came along to @copelandparkse the turnout was amazing.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible tutors at CSA, who go above and beyond to make these exhibitions happen and who continue to champion us as we step into our careers. And to my classmates and the wider CSA community, I am so proud to have exhibited alongside you. The broad range of approaches and visual languages that have grown from this MA feels like pure magic. I can’t wait to follow all of your successes.

I made a little book.
Inside are my drawings of children from observation. Mainly my own children.
But also little notes of what I’ve learnt from drawing children. A few years ago I never thought I could draw from observation. Just didn’t think I was any good at it. But it’s been a process of really learning to see. Of noticing the things that others might not. Recording these little gems and keeping them safe for when I may need to reference them for a story. It’s also a personal visual diary of my children growing and changing, memories of the everyday that you don’t think to photograph. I only wish I drew them when they were younger.

I’ll use a wrong colour or smudge something, spill ink, draw a face I don’t like. But this is where the magic happens….

The correcting and improving, the painting over, combined with stubborn determination results in something I could have never thought up. I enjoy the feeling of being surprised by what I make. It’s all very Human. I’m hoping for a lot of mistakes in 2026!!

Happy Winter Solstice ❄️
Here is one of the books I developed on my Masters Stage @csacbi .
Very appropriate for the season.
In my rush to hand it in I didn’t take very good photos but I’m excited to share this with you in the new year.

Here is one of the books I developed on my Masters Stage @csacbi .
Very appropriate for the season.
In my rush to hand it in I didn’t take very good photos but I’m excited to share this with you in the new year.
I’m off for a well earned rest now, but I want to wish you a peaceful Christmas with loved ones.

On Monday I handed in all of my Masters Stage work!
So that’s it. MA officially done. ☑️ Although I know we’ve still got a busy few months ahead preparing for our degree shows.
I’ll miss the brilliant tutorials @csacbi , the lovely tutors, the excellent lectures and I’ll miss going to the beautiful Cambridge each week.
.
But what’s definitely not coming to an end is our friendship.
I’ve made friends for life, and I’m so grateful to have met these people.
This is not the end, it’s only the beginning.
